The WPKI Non-Profit Association updates the technical specifications and leaves the WIM based solution in favor of a solution based on SIM Application Toolkit. The changes make the solution independent of the mobile phone manufacturers implementation of WIM and increases the possibilities for a wider spread. SIM Application Toolkit based technology is widely used by the telecom operators and can be handled by virtually all mobile telephones.

The WPKI Non-Profit Association has been formally created. A number of organisations, Finansiell ID-teknik, Ericsson and TeliaSonera amongst others, have formed a non-profit organisation with the aim to maintain and develop a solution for mobile e-IDs. The association is open for new members that can contribute to the development of the solution.
